Made Sports

When I first came to ONW I knew that I wanted to be a sports broadcaster but didn't know which class to have.  Then I decided to the class SID because knew it was about sports which are my passion. Since I was in video as a sophomore I had already a better background knowledge on the camera and other things.

Since I was a little kid i always wanted to be sports broadcaster  and now I'm getting a chance to full fill it.

Cross Country
One of my first things I did was cover the  Cross Country Team. I did many stories and interviews on the team.  I did a feature story on one of the best runners in the state Cameron Gueldner. Her story was on how a diseases called anemia kept her out of running. Going in to this I didn't really know a whole lot about cross country except the fact that they run.

Feature Stories
Feature stories are stories on people who have an interesting story to tell. I learned a lot about making them. Doing these you have start by coming up with interview questions. Then we will interview them and learn about their story and then put them together in a package. This semester I have made two Feature stories. The first one was on cross county runner Cameron Gueldner  and softball player Regan Hathaway.

                                                                  Regan Hathaway

Final Cut Pro
I had a good understandment of final cut pro but I learned so much more this year. I learned a lot more short cuts to help edit my videos that I went out and filmed. I made some pretty nice videos from final cut pro.

My Goals
One of my goals is to learn more on commentating because thats what my passion is and what i what to be.
My other goal is to learn the camera more so I can go out and get a lot more shots to make my videos cooler.

Documentary Proposal

Documentary Proposal

A proposal is a thorough explanation of your project. It is created in the pre-production phase to persuade funders, distributors and others to support the project.

  1. Working title: A Snowy Life

  1. Producers: Jackson and Parker

  1. Controlling idea: You must first write a controlling idea that will describe the premise of your documentary. Use the following template:

My documentary is about Jacob Snow and hockey in Kansas. The main conflict is about how Jacob Snow is one of the few people at Olathe Northwest. Ultimately, I want the audience to feel and to understand that that hockey is bigger in Kansas than most people think.

  1. Main characters: Write a paragraph about EACH of your main characters. For each, include:
The main character in the story is Jacob Snow. Jacob Snow is one of few people at Olathe Northwest Highschool that plays hockey. This person is the main character of our story and we will be following him around while he goes from his house to the hockey rink. The character's role is a hockey player from Olathe Northwest High school in Kansas. This character is interesting because he plays a sport that is not very popular in a state that doesn't have a professional team for that sport.

  1. Conflict: What is at issue in the film?
    1. How do people train for hockey in Kansas?
    2. The story will show Jacob playing hockey and scoring a goal.

  1. Plot diagram: ACT I: Jacob will be waking up and getting ready for the day. ACT II: Jacob will be getting ready for the ride to the rink and will be driving to the rink. ACT III: Jacob will be at the rink and playing hockey.

  1. Resolution: the film will end with Jacob scoring a goal and going to an interview of him talking about hockey.

New Golden Age

Its about new technological advances in television and the new ways to watch tv and movies.
The authors main argument is digital innovation . It's ale arguing that mobile technology is the way tech is going to. Mobile Tech they are saying will be only what we use in the future. The authors strengths are that it has a lot of evidence to back up its claims. Like with Moble Tech id agree with became I use my iPhone more than anything especially more than my computer. Its weaknesses are that it could have had more evidence to support its claims like we are moving more towards mobile tech is just a statement. It needs more that. The main conclusion is that businesses that keep up with the brand new technology are the ones that succeed.

Yes the authors argument supports the main claims on technology. It supports the main claims on most of the article but there needs to be a lot more evidence for the arguments. Yes some of the evidence is convincing from all the points on technology. There needs to be a lot more evidence backing up it's claims to make the arguments more convincing. The tv and movies and stuff appeal to me because I'm in video and also the mobile tech because I use my phone more than anything. Mobile Tech is almost what everyone uses now for technology.

I thinks that this article is a good one to read because it talks about the future of tech and way it's heading. I like when it talks about the Phone and mobile tech.

coach barnes

Head Coach
Tim Barnes: Coach Barnes is entering his 12thseason as the head cross country coach this fall. He graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1995 with a degree in art education. Coach Barnes also serves as the distance coach for the Raven Track & Field team.

Key Runners
The boys are led by Senior Aaron Taylor. Aaron placed 20th at the 6A state cross country meet this past season.
The girls are led by Junior Cameron Gueldner. Cameron placed 11th at the 6A state cross country meet this past season.

Seniors
Boys: Aaron Taylor, Seth Kern, Cole King, Evan Belden
Girls: Roxie Blackhurst, Laurel Sherman

1.     What do you expect from your team this year that is different than last year?
We lost several key runners from last year’s squad, so we are looking for new leadership. We are looking for kids to step up and fill those vacant spots.
2.     What do you need to do as a coach to help your team be successful?
I think I need to be patient and give younger kids more time to develop. I need to help some of my veterans take on more leadership roles this season. It takes time and coaching  to develop leaders, so that is something I will have to stay on top of.
3.     Is there something about this team that separates them from any teams you’ve coached in the past?
On the girls side our numbers are down this year. We need everyone to stay healthy, because we are going to be lacking in depth. We have a lot of boys out for the team, so I am looking for kids that want to make a name for themselves by trying to step up and take a varsity spot.
4.     What have you done differently to prepare for this season versus last season?
Honestly, not much. The secret to having a successful fall season happens by doing the summer training. We had several kids coming in and running all summer, so hopefully that will pay off for them in the upcoming months.
5.     What key meets do you see on the schedule that will challenge your team?
The Missouri Southern Stampede and the Rim Rock Classic are two very large meets that we will be attending this fall. Both meet will show us how we are progressing and what we will need to do in order to be more competitive.

cross country #1

Returning varsity runner Hayden Kovarik lettered last year and had an average season. This season Kovarik is looking to improve on getting the sixteen-minute mark on the 5K run.

“I am the second best runner on the team” said Kovark when asked about how he ranked on the team. When Hayden races he gets tired and he feels he would be able to do better if he didn’t get tired and he views this as his weekness.

Hayden is looking forward to competing in state and seeing what the team can do.

“Aaron Taylor and Trey Seaba” said Kovark are the team’s main contributors on the boys side. On the girls side Hayden feels the main contributor is Cameron Gueldner.

Hayden views that the toughest opponent last year was Olathe north because they always have a good team. He prepares in the off season for this matchup by running twice a day and average 60 miles a week.

Kovariks proudest accomplishment are medaling twice this year.  The most memorable moment last year was getting to travel down to Minnesota with the team.

Kovarik started getting into cross country by his sister. His oldest sister ran in cross country so he started to and plans on doing Cross Country in college if he gets a scholarship.

Haydens greatest hope for cross country is being able compete in State and his greatest fear is to fall and wipeout during a race.

profile

Cross Country Profile: Cameron Gueldner

Olathe Northwest runner Cameron Gueldner has battled through injuries to P.R a few times.

When asked what she could work on. "Get Healthier and pay more attention to my health not just overwork myself but still train hard," she said.

Gueldner when healthy is one of the best runners not just for Olathe Northwest but in the
Sunflower league. Set back by an iron deficiency, Gueldner could only compete in 3 races. But this season she is ready to remain healthy and compete.

Gueldner is one of the hardest working girls on the team. Gueldner said when asked about her strengths “ hardworking and encouraging others for the team”.

Gueldner started cross country in 7th grade because of her mom. Gueldner says “my mom encouraged me to do cross country in 7th and 8th grade and I wanted to see where I could take it in high school”.

Gueldner has competed in Minnesota, Joplin, Missouri and got to compete in the Nike Cross Regionals in South Dakota.

Gueldner will be one of the key runners for this years team and will have her first meet this Thursday against Shawnee Mission South.
