Returning
varsity runner Hayden Kovarik lettered last year and had an average season.
This season Kovarik is looking to improve on getting the sixteen-minute mark on
the 5K run.
“I
am the second best runner on the team” said Kovark when asked about how he
ranked on the team. When Hayden races he gets tired and he feels he would be
able to do better if he didn’t get tired and he views this as his weekness.
Hayden
is looking forward to competing in state and seeing what the team can do.
“Aaron
Taylor and Trey Seaba” said Kovark are the team’s main contributors on the boys
side. On the girls side Hayden feels the main contributor is Cameron Gueldner.
Hayden
views that the toughest opponent last year was Olathe north because they always
have a good team. He prepares in the off season for this matchup by running
twice a day and average 60 miles a week.
Kovariks
proudest accomplishment are medaling twice this year. The most memorable moment last year was
getting to travel down to Minnesota with the team.
Kovarik
started getting into cross country by his sister. His oldest sister ran in
cross country so he started to and plans on doing Cross Country in college if
he gets a scholarship.
Haydens
greatest hope for cross country is being able compete in State and his greatest
fear is to fall and wipeout during a race.
